SPONGE began as a light-hearted meme token before evolving into a more structured project with the launch of SPONGE V2 on Polygon. The shift aimed to stabilize the ecosystem, improve scalability, and re-center the project after early security issues. Its identity still leans heavily into playful branding, but now with a more intentional roadmap.

A major part of SPONGE V2’s appeal is its staking system, which lets holders lock tokens to earn rewards while participating in the migration from the original token. This mechanism acts both as an incentive and as a bridge, gradually moving the community toward Polygon’s faster, cheaper infrastructure.

Looking forward, the project emphasizes building a play-to-earn game to deepen utility and give holders new ways to engage. While still in development, the idea aligns SPONGE with the trend of meme coins expanding into interactive ecosystems rather than staying purely speculative.
