Rather than trying to fix or correct events, I cultivate an observational distance built on Gwanmang a Korean term that refers to watching from a distance without judgment or intervention. Influenced by Stoicism, Buddhist thought, and simulation theory, I understand reality as a system that is already running, indifferent to personal intention.
In today’s world where many no longer trust traditional religion technology, algorithms, and probability often function as new belief systems, regulating our experience of reality. My work translates that non intervening, system-level gaze into visual form. Working primarily with digital media and found footage, I freeze, fragment and re-assemble online debris. I use red fields and mechanical beeps as recurring markers of a “god’s-eye viewpoint,” not to alter the footage, but to reveal its underlying structure. The result is not a narrative of redemption, but a visual space of cold consolation where clarity becomes a form of strength.
