Somewhere a clerk keeps a register of everything that has been annulled.
ANNULLED is 4,444 entries in that register. Each one is a name or a word, drawn in code and then crossed out: a single line pulled through a scene rendered for that entry and never rendered again. The subjects are the long dead, the mythic and the never living. What is crossed out does not come back.
Every entry is built from 21 traits. The scene behind the name, the palette, the hour and the weather, the typeface, the ink, the shape of the strike itself. Seven tiers run from the common record to the five pieces the register keeps for itself.
Every entry also carries its own wallet. The token is an address: it can hold, it can sign, it can act, and it leaves with the token the day the token is sold.
An entry can be struck for good. Burning one writes the moment into the register, and the count stands there for anyone to read.
