Her name is (yeyé-mother, homo-son, eyá-fish) which literally means "Mother of the fish", for this reason we are all "sons of Yemayá", having all been, small aquatic creatures, suspended in the womb of our Mother. Yemayá is the owner of the sea waters, she is the mother of all the children of the earth. It represents the uterus, fertility and universal motherhood, its power is so immense that it represents the whole sea with its waves. Yemayá represents the self-sufficient woman. Yemayá's relationship with men, in the most ancient legends, is physical distance. Yemayá respects men, assists them, responds to their requests, but does not need them. There are no ancestral accounts of sensual love between her and men. They appear only as the material parents of the children of the Goddess. Yemayá doesn't have a bad relationship with man, she just doesn't need it. She is the eternal mother and her position towards men can be expressed with this sentence: I don't need you, but if you need me, I am here.

Yemayá serves us as a magical symbol, to awaken in us, the forces of inner femininity. The power of creation. We need Yemayá to properly manage everything related to the most important aspects of the life of an ordinary person: family, work, home, friends, health, economy etc ...

In the life of a Goddess, however, this ability is made available to the management of the cosmos.

Yemayá represents that feminine characteristic (which can be activated by both men and women) related to "knowing how to keep everything together". To awaken Yemayá in our subconscious means to awaken that power of the "Neolithic" woman, that wild, instinctive knowledge that does not care about the judgment of others.

LOS ORISHAS collection image

The Orishas are deities of the Yoruba religion who are believed to have acted as intermediaries between the gods and men. The Yoruba religion has its origins in West Africa. Most of their believers were used as slaves in the Americas and were forbidden to have their own faith, which is why Africans disguised their gods as saints of the Christian religion. But when freedom came, these ancient forces that had never died flourished vigorously, not only in communities of African descent, but everywhere in the world.
