The act of speculation has been stolen from most of society. Speculation is imagination with action, it’s how we progress as a society and will visions of the future into existence. The practice of investing in a person or pursuit is a well understood, it’s just not widely available.

Apparently one cannot have access to the most promising ventures unless they are already rich. Huh? So one of the primary ways for financial growth is only available to people who have already have that capital. Venture is a luxury and talent that apparently only those with money have access to. So those without it are essentially trapped in a loop that means they will rarely escape. The only speculation that is allowed to everyone are on public markets, once most of the growth is gone, or in casinos and sports where the act of speculation is belittled.

Even worse, limiting venture investing to those with massive amounts of capital also means that those peoples points of view are the ones that gets funded. There’s limited diversity in imagined versions of the future that are funded. Which again, systematically leaves out most people.

It’s no wonder that existing powers at be would reject and actively attempt to thwart systems that allow anyone to participate: because they lose their monopoly on our future.
