"Harmony" implies a balance, calm and beautiful. "X" is the factor that is intent on disrupting this balance; in Harmony X the artist has defined the factor as "you." With the slightest click of your finger, tranquility evaporates, and the factors of balance and harmony slowly disintegrate over time. Perhaps this black void represents humanity in its most primitive state.

About: Peng Jian was born in Yueyang, Hunan Province in 1982. He graduated with an MFA from China Academy of Art at Hangzhou in 2013, where he still works and lives. Peng Jian’s paintings are bold in colour, and angular in line, channelling the force of the ancient Chinese architectural discipline of jiehua. The artist harnesses the ruler tools that were used to bring buildings to life in imperial times. In 2013, he held his first solo exhibition Through the Windows at Ora-Ora, Hong Kong. In 2017, he held a solo exhibition at the Liang Yi Museum (organised by Ora-Ora) in Hong Kong, entitled Ten Miles Away, and most recently Harmony in 2019. Peng has also exhibited at international art fairs including Art15, London in 2015, Ink Asia 2018 in Hong Kong, Art Basel Hong Kong 2016-2019. His works are collected by the Today Art Museum and the Liu Haisu Art Museum.

Ora-Ora began in Hong Kong in 2006, with globally-sourced artists who are thought-driven innovators. Our artists interpret history and philosophy to bring new perspectives to our modern world and the lively dialogues between east and west. Recognized for our support of Asian contemporary art, we have grown to represent artists from Asia, Europe and the US across a variety of media. Dr. Henrietta Tsui-Leung, co-founder of Ora-Ora, is also co-founder of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association, which builds connections and opportunities in the growing Hong Kong art industry. The gallery continues to develop alliances and partnerships with institutions globally to enable discovery of our artists in fresh environments. From our base in Hong Kong, we travel regularly to meet our clients at global art fairs and our international exhibitions.
