Artist: Skye Nicholas, “If you put a key under the mat for the cops, a burglar can find it, too. Criminals are using every technology tool at their disposal to hack into people’s accounts. If they know there’s a key hidden somewhere, they won’t stop until they find it.” —Tim Cook (y.at/⚠️💻👉👛) Skye Nicolas breaks new ground as the first artist to integrate yats as an integral component of the artwork, creating a new artform referred to as Yat Art. These artworks feature a yat: a unique combination of emojis which function as a domain, pointing to a galaxy of online content—from videos to articles, web pages, and on occasion mystery files and downloadable assets. Hack This Wallet, is a direct commentary on internet privacy and security, mainly focused on our ever growing vulnerability to hackers. The tongue in cheek troll piece is meant to mock online thieves responsible for data breaches, stolen cryptocurrency, and NFTs. The yat in the artwork directs would be hackers to a folder, containing instructions and a secret recovery phrase to gain access to a MetaMask wallet. This innovative use of yats as an interactive element to the artwork not only typifies Nicolas’ exploration of new digital media as a medium, but also delineates his pioneering development of the artform.
