The fourth in a series of photo editions minted in 2023. Walking through Yoyogi Park in Shibuya on New Years Eve 2022 was unexpectedly emotional. I used to visit this park several times a week and it very much feels like home to me in so many ways, but also having not been there since moving away several years before it felt different. When I left the pandemic was in full swing and lockdown restrictions were in full effect, all of which had been dropped by now. I spotted this guy laying on a little bluff in the park. Was he enjoying the relaxing warmth of the sun or had he just given up, unable to keep going and just collapsed where he was standing. Maybe both. I resonated with that duality myself so that's what I choose to project onto this. A balance between relief and exhaustion. Between contentment and total forfeit. That's what life feels like a lot these days, and I found it fitting that this would be one of my last photos of the year.
