There are few places on Earth that enchant visitors with majesty and a mystic aura Mt. Nemrut in southern Turkey is one of those places. However, It's not height of a towering 2134 mt. that makes Nemrut a UNESCO World Heritage-worthy site but rather it is the gigantic statues of gods commissioned by King Antiochus 1 of Commagene for his own tomb that makes it a world wonder. After hiking all the way to the summit, 2 different tumuli east and west welcome you. The east terrace contains the Gallery of Gods, the Gallery of Ancestors & the altar. The main group of statues were the figures of 5 deities, representing the pantheon of the newly established religious cult. The western terrace also has almost the exact same statues. On the back of the gigantic thrones of the gods both in the east and west terraces. The giant statues of King's Heads on these 2 separate viewing terraces host a fascinating beauty at sunrise or sunset to experience the true magic of the setting.
