Starlight is Free (If You Live In Outer Space). It's about privilege, access, perspective, and humility.

This piece is a photoshopped derivative of my original watercolor Sunlight Is Free (If You Live At The Top), which is a very warm, citrus-hued painting. You can watch me paint the original on the YouTube link in the properties. I finished the painting in 2014. Then decided to play with the colors and experiment with it in 2017. Then I decided to mint it as an NFT in 2022 and further updated the painting.

The process of creating abstract art is one of humility and gratitude for my privilege. It takes being born in a 1st world country to college educated middle-class parents. It takes being lucky enough to have family and teachers who encouraged me to do well in school and then further allowed me to pursue an arts degree. It takes persistence and work to find a job so that I could afford to buy the supplies of paper, paints, and brushes at the least, but especially the drawing desk, tripod, and digital camera setup for the time-lapse. It takes being comfortable enough to work on this painting in my free time after work, then have a computer, Adobe CC, and a good enough file storage system to hold the files for 8 years until I finally minted it.

There's no doubt that I am lucky, and I made this painting from outer space.
