The Iris Nebula is a bright reflection nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. The Iris Nebula lies 1,300 light years from earth and is 6 light years across. NGC 7023 refers to the open star cluster within the larger reflection nebula, LBN 487.

The blue appearance is caused by SAO 19158, the star responsible for lighting it up. An interesting characteristic of this object is the surrounding interstellar dust, which is clearly blocking out the stars behind it.

This was captured using a Astronomik L-2 UV+IR blocking filter which cuts out the ultraviolet and Infrared wavelengths while also suppressing any star haloing or sensor reflection that I previously had issues with. This allowed me to maintain tight stars with natural star colours.

"Colours Of Space" is the culmination of over 70 hours of gathered data that has been calibrated, stacked and processed over several months. Lots of pre-planning, cold late nights capturing the night sky (and failed nights)and processing the data has been all worth it when I look back at this collection.

All these images are captured using my own telescope and dedicated astronomy camera from my back garden here in Scotland. All the data has been carefully processed and curated by myself.
