The internet is famous for selfies, spams, and porn. Until 2017 circa I carried on a series of Dirty New Media projects investigating the impact of amateur culture on online pr0n0grafy materials in terms of production, distribution and consumption. Pirated, copied, remixed, smashed, trashed, ripped materials from the dark age of PR0n!
This work, the third to be minted as NFT, it is part of Red Link District, a microblog hosted on Tumblr. Since the (in)famous Tumblr ban on pr0n, the project has lost many artworks that were banned and censored by Tumblr. Those missing artworks, like glitches, reminds us of a critical system, vulnerable and precarious and, of course, of the temporality of digital media.
The artwork is the result of a complex process. A gif was captured by placing a screen on a scanner. The animation freezed in a still image was saved as .jpg. The .jpg was then exported as a .tif file and imported in an audio editing software and interpreted as sound. Audio data were added to the imaged data and the sound exported as image. A dirty process where through a series of improper passages an image is altered working with practices of copying and databending, interpretation and exporting of data in file formatz.
