The work of Krzysztof Stępniewski is inspired by Renaissance and Baroque paintings, especially images of saints on the verge of suffering and ecstasy, mythological representations and Hellenistic sculpture. He was very influenced by the paintings of Caravaggio, Rubens, Raphael and Boticelli, as well as sculptures by Bernini and Michelangelo. Works by artists such as: Egon Schiele, Salvador Dali, Henry Scott Tuke, Hippolyte Flandrin, David LaChapelle, Tamara Łempicka and Andrzej Wróblewski. The body is his main object of interest. By combining realism with surrealism, he brings out emotions through the theatricality of gestures, the grotesque and the sensuality of the body.
