I remember when the movie The Golden Compass was released. My best friend and I went to see it. It was the adventures of an orphan in a parallel universe where a dogmatic ruling power opposes free inquiry. Children in that universe are being kidnapped by an unknown group who are supported by the Magisterium. She joins a tribe of seafarers on a trip to the far North, the land of the armoured polar bears, in search of the missing children. After the movie was over I asked my friend why, in a parallel universe, there were no black people or other people of color, and why I have never seen a movie about a parallel that was not 100% caucasian, and he said "people write or create from their personal points of view. If you want to see black people in stories or other works of art, why don't you create it yourself?" And from that point on, every short story I have written, and every piece of art I have attempted, has been from my perspective. I hope you enjoy and will consider buying!
