Coal mines shape the economic and social life in Zonguldak, Turkey. Workers working in the coal mines that created the city go under 600 meters underground every day to make a living and face the danger of dents called "tasman". The workers, who come to the mine where they work in the early hours of the morning, put on their work clothes and make their first preparations to bring the black diamond to the light of day. The workers, who take their equipment and personal protectors with them, enter the corridor illuminated by flashlights and helmet lights and get to work. The miners, who brought the black diamond, which is the national wealth thousands of meters below the ground, to the light of day and bring it to the country's economy, complete their 8-hour shift and leave the quarry with the excitement of getting "get well soon" and reuniting with their families.

coalminers collection image

In this collection, I told about the coal workers working in the mine, one of the most difficult professions in the world. It consists of 12 photographs describing the lives of coal workers working in difficult conditions underground in Zonguldak, Turkey. Working underground is very difficult, yes, taking photographs is just as difficult. I worked in mines before. I go underground from time to time and continue to photograph their lives.

About Kahraman Bekçili: I was born in 1986 in Turkey. I have been doing documentary photography for 15 years. I won awards in national and Fiap International photography competitions. I am honored to present my photo as 1
