Black Square

Some time we went to a talk on Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square that Zero point of painting you remember that’s what they call it.

After this we created our own Black Square we called ours ‘What is speaking? Why do we speak?’ after a quote from an article sewn in with all the other articles that make up the image speaking the occult power of words to impact to infect to influence to control to reveal words from spirit-worlds psychic worlds encrusted under-worlds Other-worlds of deceased angles worlds of seances and signs translations and glossolalia transcriptions and obsessions mediums and simulacra non-sense and the elemental visions and transmutations exorcisms and mercy betrayals and bad drawings the subjectile and the traps the curse and the talisman the stitch the fire the cut the slash the utterly the total the pure excess the origin (whatever that means) the undeniables the Genesis the Creation the systems the obsessions the commands the genuine the tongue and the ritual the Calls and the dictations the uttered and the transliterations the syntax and the divine the skryer and the obsidian shewstone the letters and the logos the celestial and the squares simulacra and Sanskrit of the unconscious buried under graphite that crystalline carbon built by hexagonal atoms In the rhythmic light beams cast by the mahogany photocopying machine we saw the black beating heart of it all.

Artwork comprises photocopied reproductions of 9 texts exploring the metaphysical, esoteric nature of language sewn together. The materials used to create the work are included as part the work itself: graphite, cotton thread, needle, eraser.
