Chinese mythological monster "Taotie".

The body is a cow or sheep, with tiger fangs, curved horns, and a human face.

From the image of "a beast that eats everything" to "eating a demon", it has come to have the meaning of amulet.

The bronze ware used in the festival was decorated with a taotie pattern and was used in ancient China (Yin and Zhou era) 3500 years ago.

文化と文様シリーズ No.004“中国/饕餮(とうてつ)”

中国神話の怪物『饕餮(トウテツ)』。

体は牛か羊で、虎の牙、曲がった角、人の顔を持つ。

「すべてを食らう獣」というイメージから「魔を喰らう」というゲン担ぎで、魔除けの意味を持つようになった。

祭事で使われる青銅器に饕餮文様が施され、3500年前の古代中国(殷と周の時代)にて使用されていた。
