太古の昔から、かつて栄えた者たちと交信が出来る者たちがいます。 彼女たち「パキポディウム」族の少女もまた、そのように選ばれたものなのです。 彼女らは5才のお祝いにまでに「不思議な歌」を教わり、6才の誕生日には自分の母親から「呼笛」を受け継ぎます。 そして乾燥する彼女らの村に飢餓が訪れると彼女らの出番です。 彼女らにしか奏でられない音で「訪問者」を呼び寄せ、乾いた大地を潤して貰います。 そして、12歳の誕生日を迎えるころには彼女らはその旋律を忘れてしまうのです。
