Daydreaming in Mykonos

In high school I read a coming of age novel. The main character visited the Greek island of Mykonos. He was inspired and found comfort knowing that he’s not the condemned unlovable boy he thought he was. That there was a way and that he’s not alone.

Decades later, I came to the very same island, tracing his footsteps, looking for that same light. For days, I searched but couldn’t find it. The last morning when I was half-asleep, it dawned on me: I am the dream I was dreaming of. I was the song I was singing of.
