This work is a study on the quantization of color. The pixels composing the original figure are morphed into a web of planer shapes. Each shape is correlated to the next by the measurement outcomes of a variational quantum algorithm run on noisy quantum hardware.

The underlying filter is built starting from the measurement outcomes of a quantum approximate optimization algorithm. Each pixel within the original figure is converted into a geometrical shape. The color is always preserved, but not the shape. The atomicity of the pixel is destroyed. Color morphs into lines on the two-dimensional plane. Ellipses. Open curves. Rectangles. Triangles. Dots.

All the quantum controls used in this piece have been generated by solving max cut instances for graphs of different sizes and topologies. First, a set of optimal rotations was identified by using a simulator, and then the corresponding circuit was evaluated on real QPUs.

The aesthetics of the sphere is a reminder of the Bloch sphere. Its decomposition, a homage to the Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum era.
