'Au gré des vagues' means: Following the waves or at the mercy of the waves. This piece is the original virtual sketch that turned into a massive mural I did in Marseille in November 2021. You can see the final result of the mural here: https://www.3ttman.com/2021/01/au-gre-des-vagues/ The title refers to our current situation, with the covid19 waves striking and locking us all down, I represented the city of Marseille as a boat because it feels somehow that we are all quarantined on the same boat right now. The title can also refers to the refugees lost at sea but the main meaning remains a tribute to women who explore, raise, feed, love, protect, keep us together... they have been doing that for centuries now and I think that, in these uncertain times, the World urgently needs woman common sense and understanding in the frontline to come back afloat.
For every work I do (mural, canvas, ceramic...), I make a previous digital sketch to check out the color and the shapes. I tend to use photoshop in a very basic way to keep the flow of the original handmade lines and make it look almost like a collage. The resolution of the pieces is really High so you can appreciate the roughness of the details. Every piece that you will find in this collection is actually the artistic seed for real pieces such as massive murals or contemporary paintings.
