Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831-1895) was the first Black woman with a medical degree in the United States. Crumpler enrolled at the New England Female Medical College (NEFMC) which was the first educational establishment to train women M.D.s. She began practicing in Boston, and then in Richmond. She participated in numerous charities that took care of freed African Americans who couldn’t afford medical care. Crumpler published her book “A Book of Medical Discourses” which includes advice on treating illnesses in infants, children, and young women.
The visionary minds behind Gagarin Show present a 62 piece NFT collectible “American Heroes” which is inspired by some of the most iconic and notable people in American History. The 62 American icons selected for this NFT series represent people who wholeheartedly believed in dignity, strived for freedom, and fiercely fought for human rights. Each NFT is a 3D character model that depicts a particular American hero.
The concept of this NFT series is to shine a light on actual heroes of the real world who have dedicated their entire lives to battling evil and inequality long before the emergence of fictional superheroes. Modern pop culture has elevated and idolized protagonists with superpowers and they have become somewhat of a cult. Films about superheroes are a success at the box office, attracting millions of people around the world whilst superhero characters are deemed as aspirational.
