On June 6, 2020, more than 15,000 people protested against racism on Alexanderplatz in Berlin, Germany. Dressed in black and with face masks on, participants showed up in solidarity with demonstrations around the globe protesting against systematic racism and police brutality, which ignited after the violent death of George Floyd in police custody in the U.S.
The organizers expected 1,500 people to show up. Instead, over 15,000 came and protested with signs that read “Black Lives Matter” but also “Germany is not innocent”, calling out the racial discrimination in their own backyard.
