Work created as a part of #ShowYourself contest by Rik Oostenbroek. An amazing initiative that flamed up the creativity of many artists.
The task was to create an interpretation of his artwork 'Self', with the provided source materials (vector shapes).

Working on yourself is like working on a piece of art. Something can always be improved or changed in a better way. It is an endless journey towards perfection which we aren't able to reach, no matter how much we try. It doesn't matter if we don't reach perfection. What matters is the change in a better direction.

Each one of us is made of an endless number of different layers that overlap and form a unique combination of emotions, skills, knowledge, feelings, thoughts, fears and dreams. Each person is a unique fusion of many elements.

Sometimes we get lost along the way and lose the connection with our source and the things that truly matter. When that happens it is time to reconnect again with ourselves and the world around us. That is the right time to rediscover your soul and your true purpose.

Before starting to work on art I needed to rediscover myself again. To reconnect with what sets my soul on fire and motivates me to get up from bed every morning.
I find it usually in art, but also in simple things like spending time in nature, growing vegetables or cooking.

While working on this I tried to step out of my comfort zone of dark backgrounds and light effects that shine brightly in contrast with that backgrounds. I tried to swim in the new and unknown waters, while still maintaining my usual artistic DNA structure. That helped me to approach the art a bit differently than usual. Similar to how coal and diamond are both made of carbon, their basic DNA structure is similar, but the final results are quite different.

Style is not working in a similar way, but having a recognizable DNA structure of your art.
