He sat near the opening to Aberaeron’s harbour wall, shoulders slouched, absorbed by the iPhone, somewhat oblivious to his surroundings. A Yorkshire boy on his holidays, but unimpressed. He wasn’t really in the room. He didn’t look like a kid who spent much time outside, and shied from the fizzing energy of the kids at the opposite end of the stone path.

His portal, an LCD screen. I almost felt guilty about asking to take his picture, but when I did, he seemed indifferent and lacking pretence. Refreshingly unperturbed. _

This image comes from the project, Don't Push Me 'Cause I'm Close to the Edge, documenting happenstance encounters in and around the British coast. The project began in earnest during the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel was off limits.

This curated collection is capped at 100 pieces, released over time, at which point, it will be made into a photo book. This image is part of the first "drop" that includes images taken during the 2020–21 pandemic itself.
