In Greek mythology, a creature called Hippocampus (Underwater horse) pulls the God Poseidon around in an underwater chariot. These magical seahorses are nowhere connected to an actual horse. They are one of the only few fishes which can swim vertically with their spiky bony bodies. Definitely not strong enough to carry any chariots. There is a ton of unbelievable seahorse facts which made me a big-time fanboy of these beautiful unicorns.
This shot was from my last trip to Anilao in December 2019. It was almost the end of our dive, and we were navigating back to the boat. I spotted this colourful one hanging out in the plain sand bed which was a bit unusual. They are usually well camouflaged in the reef or in a patch of seagrass to hide from predators (also to hunt). He was not camera shy either, posing for good portraits. It was a great safety stop subject to end the dive with.
