It’s my tribute to a heroe of Casamance (south in Senegal). Aline Sitoe Diatta fought for the liberation of her country under french colonisation. In 1943, French power was weakened by its military collapse at the start of the Second World War and this Diola region was deemed resistant to any form of authority other than clan tradition.
Considered dangerous, Aline was arrested and tried by the French colonial administration, then deported to Timbuktu, Mali, where she died of scurvy in 1944 at the age of 24, becoming an emblematic figure of the Casamance resistance to the colonization. For me, the most important thing in my Art is the story it can tell, the moment or inspiration it captures and that it fixes forever in the time that passes without ever stopping!
Part of my Genesis NFT series "Jigéen" (women), this piece is created for the 1st Cyber Baat exhibition.
