If there was ever a mountain that was going to be called Mount Aspiring .. this was the one.

The New Zealand Maori actually named this mountain Tititea - meaning Glistening Peak. At sunrise the peak glistens in the sun and can be seen for miles nestled amongst the Southern Alps.

Tititea/Mount Aspiring has also been called the Matterhorn of the South.

I shot this photo on a sunrise flight over Mount Aspiring National Park during one winter in New Zealand. It is one of the best scenic flights I have ever experienced and this photo has been featured on the cover New Zealand's Mountaineering magazine.
