Even the slightest movement on the sailboat caused my hands to freeze and go stiff. My gloves were too thick to operate my camera controls and my thinner layer of gloves couldn't compete with the arctic air. As I shot thousands of photos, I had to work through a constant balance between preventing frostbite and capturing the moment.

While on the boat, my lens was able to fit through a hole on the sidewall. It gave a composition that felt as if you were able to touch the water. From there, I waited patiently in hopes that something would align.

Needless to say, they did. The clouds rolled in, the ocean went calm and a lonely glacier stood proud in the distance.

Overall Subzero is my expression on the balance of beauty, patience and chaos. When I look back at this photo, I am brought back to that day navigating through the Ilulissat Icefjords.
