How often do we waste time?

Yesterday I had to go to the symposium for the restoration of the historical 1776 Casparini pipe organ at the Holy Ghost church in Vilnius. The organ sits unrestored for 20 years and the process has stuck so international experts gathered to discuss the challenges and the ways this project could see success.

The second part of the day was interesting - we had real discussions, back and forth sharing of ideas. But in the morning a few experts just gave talks about their vision of the restoration in general. In German. I know a little German from school but not enough to keep me engaged. Therefore most of the talks in the morning were boring to me.

And not only to me. I've seen people constantly scrolling their social media feeds all the time. I've seen people chatting on the phone...

You surely have been to a boring meeting, haven't you? The one where you have to sit because either its part of your job or maybe because the situation is such that you couldn't easily decline going to the meeting. Or maybe you went to the meeting because it was easier to sit and do nothing than to do the work that matters. I did it many times so I know how it feels... You feel trapped... And angry and frustrated at yourself and at the environment that time is passing by and you're just doing nothing... But I wasn't frustrated or angry yesterday at all. And I'll tell you why.

At this symposium I had my drawing pocket notebook with me as I carry it in my bag at all times now. You never know when the opportunity or the inspiration to draw will come to me. So there you go - yesterday morning was exactly such an occasion.

Instead of scrolling my phone mindlessly (which I don't do anyway) or chatting on the phone (same thing - waste of time) I checked what's the theme for today's Artstorm contest and started drawing my Pinky and Spiky comic. The theme was "Indian Sweets".

I didn't know much about Indian sweets so I even watched a short video which was provided (with the sound muted, of course). Then I drew a frame in a notebook, my name, yesterday's date and started drawing.

The idea came to me that Pinky and Spiky should be eating Indian sweets. I thought it would be fun to draw Pinky eating with full mouth and looking greedily at Spiky's sweets which she would never do, of course. There would be some round sweets and one square sweet on the table a long with the cup for a drink for each of them.

Pinky's square sweet would be without one bite and part of this bite would be visible in her mouth. Spiky would be simply looking at his sweets with a happy smile. Now I needed some funny dialogue too. What could Spiky say?

I know Spiky loves to eat worms every day. But since he also has a sweet tooth, he said "Very filling, even though it's not worms". Now for the punchline? I needed something which Pinky would never say... There you go - "Leave more to me!"
