Figure 666, 𓏂 W H I T E F O U N T A I N 𓏂, Mixed Media, 5400px X 7200px, 2022, I have always been a fan of the tweets Colborn writes for the MOCA Twitter account. They are always thought-provoking in some way or another. Either through a simple use of emojis or some of the most quick-witted conceptual phrases I personally have seen. It always gives me an idea for a project. That's how 𓏂 W H I T E F O U N T A I N 𓏂 started. I remember waking up, seeing a thread of two tweets using the baseline text from Blade Runner. Knowing MOCA is fine with artists using its graphics, I sent a quick message asking if I can use both tweets for one of the photo edits I had been doing. My first attempt was not fully successful, full of too many themes, ideas, and clashing imagery. Then Colborn mentioned sacred geometry in a sentence, and I immediately knew what to do. Having grown up in Egypt, Islamic sacred geometry is inescapable. It can be found everywhere and put on almost anything, from the walls of the mosques to your everyday coffee cup. Each geometric figure containing religious thematic undertones within it. Having been interested in the processes of cultural and artistic hybridization, I thought it would be the perfect to create a small set of sacred geometry figures utilizing only one MOCA graphic each. The baseline text really interested me, as I had always viewed Blade Runner as a movie with heavy religious undertones. With the biggest one being the created meeting their creator. It was perfect for the sacred geometry figures. A simple yet extremely conceptual, and complex text seemed only fitting for such a simple yet complex geometric figures. The numbers chosen for the figures themselves are used to introduce a fun element of meme culture (utilizing meme numbers). It has become very clear in the last 10 years or so that memes can be as strong and as far-reaching as art. Even MOCA incorporated these meme elements within the ROOMs. I knew meme numbers had to be used. Perfectly fitting the conceptuality of the work. I AM A CHILD OF THE INTERNET, AFTER ALL! 𓁏
