"I asked the moon what to do.
He said: wait, better times will come..."

The moon and the tree.

Inspiration came from listening to the new Indochine live album and of course, the best song ever to listen to the live version of, J’ai demandé à la lune.

I started this piece with an idea in my head of a night landscape. The plan was to keep it simple with stars and the moon, however, the stars have become more like snow and I didn’t like the idea of making a seasonal piece.

I have repainted the sky with aquamarine blue and after seeing a lot of minimalistic pieces on the feed, decided to add an element and for the first delicate one I have chosen a tree. Simple yet effective. In the first iteration, the tree was white but then again, it looked seasonal. I have decided to make it a bit moodier or night-like and went with a black shape which looked good but very flat. Adding the white outline at the front made it look lit up by the moon, but then the shadow issue arouse and in the end, I added that too to complete the piece.

The moon itself - I wanted to use something that is becoming a signature for me - is created by pressing the paint with Plexi to create a veiny-like texture. On the colour front, titanium white didn’t fit with the mood so I have pressed iridescent white on top which makes it silver-shiny. To complete the full night effect, the whole piece is covered in matt medium with grey and then glazed with gloss UV varnish.
