The Destruct/Construct Collection – A Journey from Destruction to Creation
In 2023, Remoi embarked on an intense and transformative artistic journey, giving birth to the Construct/Deconstruct Collection. This collection emerged from a period of profound creative void, a challenging phase for any artist. Struggling with dissatisfaction and uncertainty, he painted four or five canvases but found himself unable to proceed.
Faced with this creative crisis—perhaps even despair, fearing he had lost his artistic spark—Remoi made a radical decision: destruction. One by one, he systematically destroyed these paintings, exploring different methods. Some were thrown out of a window, left exposed to wind, rain, and sun for days or weeks before being retrieved and torn into pieces. Others were repeatedly run over by a car, resisting complete destruction but ultimately being shredded and stored away.
After several weeks, he returned to these fragmented remnants. From each bag of destroyed pieces, he assembled a new painting—transforming destruction into creation. The entire process was meticulously documented through a series of videos, now archived.
From this act of deconstruction and reconstruction, 10 new works were born—each a fusion of the past and the present. In reality, they represent 20 paintings: 10 that were physically destroyed and 10 that emerged anew from their remnants. Some of these new pieces incorporate additional motifs, further expanding their meaning.
