Bitcoins and all other crypto coins are based upon mining! This digital coin is inspired by the Norwegian painter Per Krogh (1889-1965) - who also painted the U.N. Security Council mural in New York City. The main motif is REAL mining. Moreover, the coin resembles a medieval bracteate: one-sided coins from thin (silver) sheets.

www.svalbard.money is a Norwegian NFT-project initiated by SpareBank 1; the second largest finance group in Norway. The fascinating monetary history in Svalbard constitutes the core of the project: In the 20th century, American, British, Norwegian, Russian/Soviet and Swedish coal companies issued local currencies in Svalbard; notes and (Soviet) coins; money based upon real mining and physical proof of work.

The digital Svalbard notes are unique reproductions of various Anglo-Russian, Norwegian and Soviet Svalbard notes. The decentralized production of such notes ceased on February 7th 2022 when the Ethereum blockchain reached block nr. 14159265. Learn more about this part of our project in the Svalbard money white paper:

The digital Svalbard coins pay homage to the Svalbard coins that were minted in Leningrad just after WW2. Read all about it in a richly illustrated “white paper light” here:
