Hailing from Frederick County, Maryland, Lil Snally is a bizarre flying chimera that was once struck fear into the residents of this region. The lore behind the Snallygaster dates back to Germanic folklore and is the anglicized version of the German phrase schneller geist, meaning "quick spirit". This half-reptile, half-bird was said to have a razor sharp beak and claws, and would swoop down from the sky, reigning terror upon farmers and their livestock. Some say this creature only had one eye, and other later reports described it having tentacle-like appendages. The legend goes that this creature would lay large eggs, and new Snallygaster's would appear once every 20 years/ The last known appearance of a Snallygaster was at a moonshine still in the 1930s. The fumes from the still attracted a Snallygaster, and it drowned in a vat. According to the story, government agents arrived soon after and exploded the still, along with the Snallygaster body with dynamite.
