Black Mountain Waterfall, Missouri. This waterfall is part of the St Francois Mountain Range, formed by volcanic activity 1.5bil years ago. Making them one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. For perspective the Rockies are 140mil years old and the Appalachians are 460mil years old. Thanks to all of the erosion the highest peak is only 1780ft tall. The hike was one of the most rewarding. There was no clear trail so we hiked over the large boulders in the water formed canyon. That led us to something I had only ever dreamed about, a waterfall in the side of a mountain side flowing into a clear pool of water. It felt like something out of a fairytale. Approaching the area I heard the water and saw a glimpse and shouted out, "is this what I think it is!?" I was beyond excited.
I hike to satisfy wanderlust, to connect with the earth, and to escape life's many stresses and center myself. Every hike has something new to behold, even if I've been there several times before. Something I'm always searching for on my adventures is water. I feel like an adventure isn't complete until I have found the waterfall, or gotten my feet wet (sometimes more than just my feet).
