My name is Mareko and I am a Brooklyn-based New Jersey native artist who takes inspiration from the likes of Prince, producing and performing my songs myself. Mom’s Spaghetti and Veronica Decides to Die are two very different songs I’ve made that seem to encapsulate who I am and the range of my interests and styles. My goal with the video was simply to make a cool music video but it has become a real representation of my personality and how I seek to defy expectations of what I’m supposed to be. When I made Mom’s Spaghetti I knew I wanted to portray a video game-esque world. The guys with Camp Alt were able to take my vision and bring it to life, and they really did an incredible job polishing my crude ideas into something coherent and interesting. I feel like I live a “Hannah Montana” type of life sometimes. I have my day job and then at night I’m a rockstar and it’s these two worlds that feel very separate to me. I want to show the world that you can be anything and everything you want to be. I’m a regular person but I’m not because I am an actual rockstar. The rise of Web3 excites me because it invites new technology that could really change the game and put the power in the hands of the consumers and creators. I’d love to be apart of spreading the ‘gospel’ and sharing what I learn. I think we should embrace new technologies so we can shape how they are used instead of surrendering to the capitalists who want to exploit it to our detriment. So I hope to be the face of the multifaceted and unrepresented folks who want to take up space where we don’t see ourselves and show the world that we’re gonna disrupt whatever you thought this was.
