As one of the composer of modern Japanese dictionaries, he was arrested for spreading Christianity, tortured, and executed in 1633. He was cremated and ashes scattered in the sea. Jacobo was venerated in October 1980, beatified February 1981 and canonized October 1987. His feast day is 17th August.
