Minus Twenty

1/1

November is my favourite month to photograph the Canadian Rockies. It's the transition month into winter. The lakes are starting to freeze over at this point and the conditions are typically favourable for photographers with great light and misty mornings.

I woke up at 4:00 am to catch this sunrise at Bow Lake. The dream-like fog wrapped itself around the mountain as I made my way out into the chilly waters wearing my yellow dress. I wore rubber boots underneath my dress to protect my toes and legs from the freezing water. The sun began to peek over the mountains and light started spilling over the water, cutting through the fog. It provided me with a little bit of warmth and felt so good once it hit my face.

It was -20 Celcius that morning and it is the coldest temperature I have ever photographed a self-portrait in. You are only confined by the walls you build yourself.
