A landmine sweeper with a "Danger / Landmines" patch.

Many landmines were planted throughout Mozambique during the country's long struggle for independence, which was followed by a civil war. This deadly weapon continued to damage a large number of individuals and animals long after the fighting ended. For a week, I watched the efforts of heroic men who had just one mission: to find, remove, and detonate landmines. And I met some civilians who had been affected by it. Thankfully, the country was proclaimed landmine-free in 2015.
