Luba people are relatives of the Songye People. They also make Kifwebe masks. The Luba are a people are a Bantu ethnic group from the central part of Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ancestors Chimbale and Kongolo established the Kingdom of Luba and later the Kingdom of Songye when they but suffered political dissension and left Luba land to form the Songye.

Luba masks are circular in shape.Kifwebe or Bwadi bra is a secret society of masked men. In the community, these men were known for their use of supernatural powers called buki and masende. In order to become a member of the Bwadi bra Kifwebe, all applicants must go through an initiation process. During this process, they must learn and identify a secret esoteric language. They must undergo a radical and violent experience in order to become less fearful of the unknown and learn their roles within the subject to Bwadi bra Kifwebe.

The Kifwebe maintain balance within the community by conducting masquerades, rituals and rites such as initiation rituals, circumcisions and funerals. Some of the responsibilities of the Bwadi bra or Kifwebe are regulating and maintaining political order and balance between the chief and his communities. Today the Kifwebe Mask is a symbol of maintaining order in the society you find yourself in, the circular rings depicts consuming all negatives in the community and maintaining order as a leader.

Most African masks that were taken from the continent are now in the homes of private collectors and museums. The descendants of these mask makers do not have the privilege of seeing what their ancestors carved. Even though the masks were aesthetically appealing, they were functional to the tribes that used them.

African masks represent ideas that are still relevant today. I am making the most rare and most expensive masks available to new collectors in 3D. 50% of Proceeds will be contributed in setting up an Innovation Hub, in Ghana. This Innovation Hub will be a place where young creatives who are the descendants of these mask makers will come to, to develop their ideas and bring them to fruition using technology. Creatives will receive training material to develop their talents and creative abilities.
