KU-07: Alhambra is inspired by maiolica, a type of tin-glazed pottery that contrasts bold colors against white ceramic. A common theme in our NFT series is preserving traditional patterns and designs while emphasizing modern utility. In the theme of turning something old into something new, the KU-07: Alhambra is engineered to produce high quality soil out of food waste, but it is no average compost bin.

KU-07: Alhambra was designed for a world where future civilizations have depleted most natural resources, making self sustained food production a requirement. The augmented lid can control the temperature within the main vessel and regulate the chemical composition of its contents which allows for efficient, rapid decomposition of food waste while producing the highest quality of soil possible.

Kintsugi Upgrades collection image

The Kintsugi Upgrades project imagines an alternate future where ancient artifacts are discovered by a more advanced civilization than us who rebuild and augment them with enhanced technologies.

The ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi – which literally translates to “join with gold” – perfectly embodied the spirit of these objects. Through the process of repair and reconstruction, we imagined these objects being even more valuable than the original.

This project began when we came across high quality 3D models of ancient cultural artifacts that had been scanned by internationally recognised museums. We digitally shattered the artifacts and then began reassembling them with new features and components that at we thought might be the type of technology a more advanced society might have.
