반군이 데려온 다친 소년에게 먹을 것을 주었다는 이유만으로 순천 신전마을 주민들은 생과 사의 갈림길에 서게 되고 형수 등에 업혀 겨우 목숨을 건진 3살 짜리 아이는 총에 맞고 쓰러진 시신들 사이에서 어머니를 찾아보게 되는데 기름을 붓고 불태워 형태를 알아볼 수 없게 된 시신중에 어머니를 확인시켜준 유일한 것이 어머니의 '비녀'였다는 가슴 아픈 사연을 듣고 그리게 된 그림입니다.

어머니의 비녀를 감싸고 있는 꽃은 밀집꽃, 바스라기꽃이라고 불리는데요. 이 꽃의 꽃말은 '항상 기억하라'입니다. 안타깝게 희생된 분들의 영혼을 위로하고 다시는 이런 비극이 일어나지 않도록 항상 기억하자는 마음을 담아 보았습니다.

In this painting, there is a story about a Korean traditional ornamental hairpin which is called binyeo. On the day of 19th of October, 1948. There was a 3-year-old child who barely saved his life on the back of his brother-in-law. His mother was killed by the Korean soldiers in the village called Suncheon. because she gave some food to an injured boy who was brought by rebels. This was the only reason that she was sacrificed. that 3-year-old boy found his mother among the bodies that were shot and burned. and this traditional hairpin was the only thing that he could know she was his mother. I wanted to express this true story with this hairpin and the flower.

The flower that surrounds the mother's hairpin 'binyeo' is called golden everlasting strawflower. The meaning of this strawflower is " remember always". I tried to comfort the souls who were unfortunately sacrificed. and I hope that we could always remember so that such a tragedy never happens again.

여순사건 1948년 10월 19일. 제주 4.3사건과 이어지는 여순사건은 여수 14연대 소속 군인들이 제주 도민에 게 총을 겨눌 수 없어 정부 지시에 대항하면서 그 과정속에 민간인이 만 명넘게 희생당한 사건이다.

Because they didn't want to kill the People on Jeju island. even though, they had the order from the government. More than 10,000 civilians were killed in the process of suppressing the resistance.
