Chase started at 6am, bright and early with a run and a goal of 100 miles east. Hunger is trumped by the thought of storms to form in many hours. A billboard reads "Jimmy Johns" many miles in the distance. My road tripping home, Loves, stands a walk away from the store. I drive with anger filling my mind due to the fact a sandwich was not in my hand. Over the hill stands a storm, ruining my appetite. My hunger is now for an intercept and not a tuna sandwich. The UFO in the sky is mine! Once the mothership made its way across the field, it was hail intercept time. After calling all the local windshield repair places in town, I knew I couldn't do a proper core punch, but I found some 2" hail on the ground once it passed. The largest hail I have ever held in my hand would have given my windshield its grand finale. Days of chasing followed this and having a windshield for that was pretty nice.

My meteorology passion, odd to many kids at the age of 5, started when the fierce Hurricane Katrina rattled the USA. The destruction, heartbreaking, but the power, unmatchable. Hitting the dirt roads of tornado alley was a not just a dream come true, it was fulfilling my destiny. Each day on the job did not feel like work. The miles, the wrong turns, the missed storms were all but a thing, but the storms I caught, small and large, were magnificent. I was born for this. I present to you my collection from my summer "chasecation" of 2021: Chaser in the Element: Stories from Arizona and Tornado Alley.
