On March 26th 1973, Andre Roussimoff, who was wrestling as the Giant Jean Ferre in the Canadian Grand Prix territory, made his historic debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Roussimoff was given the name Andre The Giant by legendary promoter Vince McMahon, Sr. and used that name for the first time that night. McMahon billed Andre as 7 feet 4 inches and weighing 437 pounds. The name stuck, and Andre The Giant went on to become legendary. His opponent that night was journeyman Buddy Wolfe, and Andrew wowed the crowd with an easy victory, lasting just 6 minutes. The ONLY KNOWN footage of this match was shot by John Arezzi on his 8mm camera, capturing what has become, one of the truly historic moments in professional wrestling history! 1 of 1 video NFT.
