No other champion has ever thrilled the chess public like Mihail Tal (1936-1992). His star as world champion glowed only briefly, but it glowed with unprecedented intensity. The young Tal overran his opponents with his combination art and his intuitive sacrifices. He amazed the chess world with his risky uncompromising attacking play and became the role model for many subsequent players.
