"The Portals: Kinesis - Lake, Smoke, and Lily Pads, 06.29.2023, Waukesha County, WI" is a 15-second video segment documenting an installation of a physical Portal in the eastern region of the state of Wisconsin on June 29, 2023. The lake was shrouded in smoke from the historic Canadian fires that burned continuously during the spring and summer of 2023.
The Portals, an ongoing, site-specific installation series by artist Blakeney Sanford, is an invitation to explore the concepts of expansion and transformation at both the micro and macro scale. The vivid blue environmental installations encourage us to consider our presence in a specific place at a specific moment in time while simultaneously considering the possibilities of what might be next. The expansive series includes 2-D photography, 3-D installation sculpture, multidimensional NFTs, and conceptual gridwork. Through these mediums, the work creates a web of connection between the individual, the collective, the natural world, and the metaphysical beyond.
