Catherine II.

Catherine II (born Princess Sophia Augusta Frederica, Russian: Екатерина Алексеевна Романова; 2 May 1729 – 17 November [O.S. 6 November] 1796), commonly known as Catherine the Great, was the reigning Empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796. She came to power after a coup d'etat against her husband, Peter III. Her long reign helped Russia thrive under a golden age under the Enlightenment. This renaissance led to the founding of many new cities, universities, and theatres, along with large-scale immigration from the rest of Europe and the recognition of Russia as one of the great powers of Europe.

1"The exchange of state credit notes for gold coin is backed by all the property (assets) of the state." 2"State credit notes circulate throughout the entire empire on par with gold coin." 3"For the counterfeiting of credit notes, those guilty are subject to deprivation of all property rights and exile to penal servitude."

Denomination: 100 rubles. Year of issue (sample): 1910. Issuer: State Bank of the Russian Empire (Gosbank of the Russian Empire). Images (obverse side, as in the photo): In the upper part: The small state coat of arms of the Russian Empire of the 1883 model (a double-headed eagle with crowns). In the center: Text confirming the exchange of credit notes for gold coin and a warning about punishment for forgery. In the lower part: The year of issue (sample) and the signatures of the manager and cashier (which are not visible in this cropped shot, but affect the value/cost)
