The Shanghai Covid Lockdown is unlike any other in the world. Residents here are not allowed to exit their own apartment doors unless called upon for PCR tests in the public grounds of the residential compound. To paint a more specific picture, there's no gym, no shopping, no strolling, no dog-walking or socializing, and no non-essential medical services. A sleepless metropolis of 26 million people is all of a sudden eerily silent, interrupted only by the occasional sounds of motorcycles and trucks transporting essential provisions, or ambulance sirens rushing people to hospitals. In this dystopian lockdown, the resilient Shanghainese rushed to social media to crowdsource help, grievances and much more. But censors are quick to act.
