The legend of Kutiloke and Xan Kun Zaki

An ancient Xatin legend is the one about the deity Kutiloke and Xan Kun Zaki, the humble xatinian.

The legend goes that when the English explorers arrived at the Pitcairn Islands, and the xatinian population was being slaved, the deity Kutiloke appeared in front of Xan when he was on the other side of the vulcano (there is just one mountain in the main island, and it is the vulcano), and told him to go tell the englishmen thet they must go out of the island or they, Kutiloke, would kill them one by one, eating the eyes of their sons.

The englishmen listened to Xan and told him to go search the deity and fight with his bare hands and bring them their corpse, otherwise they would have to kill him for losing his mind.

At next day, Xan intended to go search for Kutiloke, so the massacre of englishmen could start, but he learned that his uncle was very sick, almost about to die, so he went to the vulcano again to search for the medicinal Paloxe flower, trying to avoid the path where he found Kutiloke previously, but was not able to find the flower. Desperate, he went to the path he was avoiding, where Kutiloke appeared again and told him "Xan, your uncle is not going to die, now go and tell the englishmen that they must go".

Xan went back directly to the port and when he met Fletcher Christian, the head of the sailors, roses started to drop from Xan clothes, magically, and the image of Kutiloke appeared imprinted on Xan clothes, miraculosly.

The englishmen were astonished and let Xan free. Xan's uncle did not die of the sickness, he recovered, but one week later the colonizers killed him, accusing him of eating half bowl of rice he was supposed to give them as tribute.

Kutiloke never appeared again.
